Amiberry 8.2.0 Improves Amiga Emulation on Raspberry Pi, ARM64, Android and Desktop

The new 8.2.0 release of the Amiberry Amiga emulator fixes a long list of JIT bugs, adds a performance monitor and improves support for Raspberry Pi 4, Android, macOS and Windows.

Amiberry, the WinUAE-derived Amiga emulator optimized for modern hardware (Raspberry Pi, ARM boards, x86 PCs, Macs, Android phones and more), has just reached version 8.2.0. Available on the project's GitHub repository, this update focuses on reliability and performance rather than big flashy features, but it fixes a long list of bugs affecting a wide range of setups.

Among the most useful additions, a new performance monitor provides detailed frame timing, render and present timing, plus line-by-line rendering diagnostics, making it easier to track down slowdowns. Overloaded ARM hosts now display a warning with one-click recovery, and Raspberry Pi 4 users get new default settings that favor automatic resolution switching over reduced emulation accuracy.

A wave of JIT fixes on ARM64 and x86-64

On the just-in-time compilation side, this release fixes several issues on ARM64 (predecrement MOVEM handling, branch target PC, the LINK A7 instruction, trap PC preservation) as well as on x86-64 (pointer-width memory operands, RIP range checking, REX prefix handling, crashes related to the x87/FPU control word). Amiberry also improves PowerPC support via QEMU-UAE, Android input and interface handling, and Libretro integration (WHDLoad booting, input-related crashes, 7z disk loading).

The update is available for free on Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, FreeBSD and Haiku from the official download page. For newcomers, the official wiki's quick start guide explains how to install Kickstart ROMs, set up paths and launch your first game or WHDLoad disk.
