Anbernic Unveils the RG 55G1, a Switch Lite-Inspired Retro Handheld

Anbernic has unveiled the RG 55G1, its newest Android-based retro handheld. Revealed on June 18 through a teaser video on YouTube, the device sports a horizontal design strikingly reminiscent of the Nintendo Switch Lite, featuring a 5.5-inch display protected by curved 2.5D glass. The RG 55G1 will be available in three colors: Indigo, Retro Gray, and Black.

A standout feature is the inclusion of Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, a technology that eliminates long-term stick drift issues.

While Anbernic hasn't shared full specifications yet, clues point to a Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 SoC (based on the "G1" suffix in the model name) and a new processing core aimed at PS2 emulation. The console also features wear-resistant "double shot" ABXY buttons, dual front-facing speakers, a cooling fan, USB-C port, and a TF card slot. Neither pricing nor a release date have been announced, but Anbernic is clearly preparing a serious push into the premium Android retro handheld segment.
