Anbernic RG DDS: a dual-screen handheld that openly eyes the Nintendo 3DS
Anbernic is continuing its line of handhelds inspired by Nintendo consoles with a newcomer called the RG DDS, short for "Dream Dual-Screen". As the name suggests, it is an unashamed clone of the Nintendo 3DS: a two-screen shell, buttons reminiscent of the New Nintendo 3DS, and three announced colours, blue, white and black. The Chinese manufacturer revealed it on 9 October 2026, with no price or release date communicated yet.
On paper, the top screen measures 4.7 inches in 5:3 at 1200 x 720, while the bottom one is 4 inches in 4:3 at 960 x 720. Anbernic highlights true 3x integer scaling for 3DS games, which should give a sharp, undistorted picture. Everything runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 paired with an Adreno GPU equivalent to an Adreno 735, with Turnip support, and a 6000 mAh battery.
What is missing, and what raises eyebrows
The most striking point is that there is no mention of glasses-free 3D: the RG DDS does not try to reproduce the stereoscopic effect of the original console. It also has a built-in extendable stylus, handy for touch games, and a dedicated "AI" button whose purpose remains unclear for now. The announced power suggests comfortable 3DS emulation on Android, but independent tests will be needed to confirm it, and nobody should expect a perfect reproduction of Nintendo's machine.
Without a price or a schedule, caution is in order: Anbernic often unveils its devices several weeks before they go on sale. We will follow the next announcements and the first impressions on 3DS emulation.
