ANBERNIC RG Rotate: it’s official, the console with rotating screen is arriving in May

After weeks of leaks, ANBERNIC has officially confirmed the RG Rotate, a handheld with a square 1:1 screen that rotates to reveal hidden buttons. Release scheduled for May, estimated price $75-90.
Update April 20: Additional sources confirm a 720×720 px display (likely the same panel as the RG CubeXX), a 2000mAh battery with 10W charging. The chipset remains unconfirmed but analysts estimate the final price between $90 and $110.

style="user-select: auto;">It was one of the most mysterious devices of the year in the retro handheld scene, and ANBERNIC has finally lifted the veil. The RG Rotate is officially announced this April 13, 2026 via the Chinese manufacturer's YouTube channel, with a trailer which confirms the main lines of the leaks of recent weeks.

🔄 The concept: a screen that rotates

The central idea of the RG Rotate is as simple as it is unprecedented in the universe of emulation handhelds: the screen rotates on itself via a pivoting hinge, like Motorola Flipout 2010. Closed, you have a small compact square with a 1:1 screen that fits in a pocket. Open, controls appear below, D-pad, ABXY buttons, and all triggers.

ANBERNIC is positioned on the RG Rotate as a multifunction device: emulation console, MP3 player, and even... clock. An assumed retro-gadget mix.

📋 What is officially confirmed

  • Design: 1:1 square screen, swing pivoting hinge
  • Colors: Polar Black (ABS shell) and Aurora Silver (aluminum)
  • Interchangeable L2/R2 buttons: two heights available (high/low) according to preferences
  • USB-Cport on top (charging + audio)
  • microSD slot for storage
  • No 3.5mm jack, surprising for a device promoted as an MP3 player

❓ What's still waiting

ANBERNIC remains discreet about the technical specs: chipset, RAM, exact screen resolution and autonomy are not yet officially confirmed. Previous leaks pointed to a 2000mAh battery with 10W charging, and enough power to emulate up to the Nintendo 64. The resolution could be 720×720 or 960×960 depending on the speculations. style="user-select: auto;">Price-wise, estimates are around$75-90. Chinese sources mention a release in May 2026.

💡 What we think

The RG Rotate is clearly ANBERNIC's most bold gamble in a long time. The brand had a mixed beginning in 2026 with the RG Vita, the RG Rotate completely changes register by focusing on fun and the format. The absence of an audio jack on an “MP3 player” is cringing, and the absence of analog sticks will limit 3D games. But to play 2D classics, Game Boy, NES, SNES, Neo Geo or even N64 in an ultra original pocket format, it has everything to appeal.
