Taito’s Space Cyclone Rises Again on Modern Consoles via Arcade Archives
Forty-six years after its arcade debut, Space Cyclone is making its way to modern platforms. Taito and Hamster Corporation have confirmed that the 1980 title will join the Arcade Archives lineup, launching on June 18, 2026 across Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Designed by Tomohiro Nishikado, the mind behind Space Invaders, Space Cyclone builds on its predecessor’s formula while introducing a unique twist. Players must shoot down cybernetic insects (BEMs) before they can land and assemble a rocket capable of unleashing deadly “Cyclone Shots”. Built on the same hardware as Space Invaders, it was originally distributed in limited regions and remains largely unknown outside dedicated arcade enthusiasts.
A mix of modes old and new, with faithful arcade emulation.
The Arcade Archives 2 edition (PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series) adds a new Time Attack Mode not available in the standard PS4/Switch release, alongside existing Hi Score and Caravan modes. Button remapping, rapid fire, save states, and rewind are included, as are CRT filters for purists. Pricing is $7.99 on older platforms and $9.99 on next-gen, with an upgrade option for $2.99.
