Atari And Activision Are Reissuing 39 Atari 2600 Games On Real Cartridges

Atari unveiled the Atari x Activision Collection on 26 August 2026, an unprecedented team-up between two companies that were bitter rivals in the early 1980s. Thirty-nine Activision games originally built for the Atari 2600 are returning on physical cartridges, in fresh production runs aimed as much at collectors as at players who still own the original console or the more recent Atari 2600+.

The catalogue splits into two offers. Twelve of the most popular titles are sold individually at $34.99, with first shipments announced for November 2026. The remaining twenty-seven are only available through four themed box sets priced at $249.99 each: Treasure in November 2026, with Pitfall!, River Raid, Megamania, Chopper Command and Grand Prix, then Speed in spring 2027 with Enduro, H.E.R.O., The Activision Decathlon and Laser Blast, Secrets in summer 2027 with Kaboom!, Keystone Kapers, Private Eye and Starmaster, and finally Victory in autumn 2027 with Pitfall II, River Raid II, Pressure Cooker and Beamrider.

A complete bundle at almost a thousand dollars. For those who want the lot, Atari is offering a package combining all four Deluxe sets plus a collectible item yet to be announced, priced at $999.96 to pre-order. That figure places the whole operation firmly in collectible territory rather than mainstream reissue.

In its announcement, Atari notes that "Activision created some of the most popular and best-selling games for the Atari 2600" and frames the project as a celebration of that shared history. Activision was founded in 1979 by former Atari developers unhappy with their working conditions, which triggered a landmark legal battle. Pre-orders are open on the official Atari website.
