Azahar will no longer support Anbernic handhelds after the RG DDS promo
The Azahar team, now the go-to Nintendo 3DS emulator, announced on October 26, 2026 that it will not officially support the Anbernic RG DDS or any other device from the manufacturer. It urges users to look for alternatives. Azahar can still be installed on these machines, but no official support will be provided if something goes wrong.
The trigger: Anbernic promoted its upcoming dual-screen handheld with 3DS gameplay running on AzaharPlus, an unofficial fork. The team accuses that fork of being piracy-focused: Azahar was designed not to circumvent Nintendo's decryption, so users must decrypt their own games, whereas AzaharPlus bundles a ROM decrypter and claims to handle all files. The name also caused confusion, and the fork's developer refused to change its name and logo despite requests from the original authors.
A precedent among frontends
Cocoon had already dropped AzaharPlus support to keep only the official Azahar. To install the emulator, go through the official Azahar website and its GitHub repository with setup documentation rather than a fork.
