Binky: Frozen in Time, a brand new Commodore 64 game from the Thalamus veterans, is out now
Thalamus Digital Publishing, the label that left its mark on the Commodore 64 scene back in the 1980s and 1990s, has just released Binky: Frozen in Time, a brand new single-screen platformer designed specifically for the 8-bit machine. The game has been available since September 24, 2026, and casts players as a young ice dragon who must freeze every platform in a cavern to open the way to the exit, across twenty levels in total.
The game was developed by Chris Shrigley and Terry Lloyd, two historic figures of C64 development responsible back in the day for titles like Bounder, Re-Bounder, Future Knight and Rick Dangerous. Binky: Frozen in Time picks up that legacy directly, built to make the most of the machine's original graphics and sound capabilities.
A physical edition and other 8-bit machines are coming
The game is available right now as a digital .D64 file on the official itch.io page, ready to run on a real Commodore 64 via a flash cartridge or in an emulator like VICE, whose website offers a beginner-friendly getting-started guide. A physical release has been announced, along with upcoming ports to Amiga, Atari ST and ZX Spectrum.
