Independent developer Andor released a public demo on June 8, 2026, bringing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon to the Sega Mega Drive and porting this beloved 2001 GBA classic to Sega's 16-bit console.

Independent developer Andor (@andorvogel4768) released the first public playable demo of his Castlevania: Circle of the Moon Mega Drive port on June 8, 2026. The beloved Konami classic, originally released on Game Boy Advance in 2001, makes a bold leap to Sega's 16-bit console in what is an impressively ambitious homebrew project.

Announced back in January 2026, the project tackles significant technical hurdles: scaling the GBA's native resolution (240x160 pixels) to the Mega Drive's display while preserving enemy animations and the game's signature Gothic atmosphere. The demo features a three-slot SRAM save system, a save-data selection screen at the title menu, and covers the full Catacombs area including the Cerberus boss fight. Some slowdown occurs during intense combat sequences, which is common in ports of this nature.

The homebrew scene once again proves that classic games have no hardware boundaries

To get the demo, the ROM file is available in the video descriptions on Andor's YouTube channel. To run Mega Drive ROM files on PC, the Genesis Plus GX core documentation on LibRetro provides a complete setup guide via RetroArch.
