Cyber Doll: The Saturn-Exclusive Cyberpunk RPG Finally Gets a Full English Translation

Cyber Doll, a cyberpunk RPG released in 1996 on Sega Saturn by Betop and I'MAX and never localized at the time, has had a complete English translation patch since September 18. The project, led by translator Exxistance and writer Wiredcrackpot, translates all dialogue, menus and subtitles, and even adds new graphical assets to replace Japanese text baked into the image.

This is actually the game's second translation attempt: a separate, earlier effort was abandoned in July 2026. Exxistance used Claude for occasional help implementing a new 8x16 monospace font for this technical task, but both creators stress that the translation and artwork were made entirely by hand. Wiredcrackpot was notably critical of the widespread use of AI in romhacking, calling it a way for some people to gain "a false feeling of having done 'something.'"

The patch also strips the Japanese subtitles from the intro video and fixes several typos in the original debug menus. Spotted by the Sega Saturn Shiro account, the project has been praised by the Saturn preservation community as one of the most polished fan localizations of the year.

The patch, along with application instructions and gameplay tips, is available for free on the project's GitHub repository, which also details how to patch an ISO image of the game.
