Dolphin hits a symbolic milestone: 97.8% of the GameCube and Wii library now playable
A compatibility report published on July 22, 2026 confirms that the open-source Dolphin emulator can now run 97.8% of the entire GameCube and Wii library in a playable state or better, with at worst minor graphical or audio glitches. Only 1.8% of tested games start and then crash, with GameCube's 1080° Snowboarding remaining the poster child for that category.
The most striking figure concerns Wii emulation quality specifically: 69% of games now earn a “Perfect” rating, up from just 38% three years ago, a jump attributed to years of fixes to graphics rendering and Wiimote emulation.
This progress builds on top of support for the Triforce arcade board, co-developed by Sega, Namco and Nintendo, completed earlier this year: nearly its entire library, including Mario Kart Arcade GP and F-Zero AX, now runs correctly in Dolphin, including the obscure card game Key of Avalon, which requires up to five simultaneous emulator instances to work over a network.
Dolphin remains completely free and open-source, and can be downloaded directly from the project's official website, which also offers getting-started guides for setting up controllers, Wiimotes and virtual SD cards.
