Developer Kazquez releases a complete PC remake of Donkey Kong Land, the 1995 Game Boy classic, entirely rebuilt with the visual style and soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country on SNES.

Thirty-one years after its original Game Boy release, Donkey Kong Land is getting an unexpected second life. Solo developer Kazquez released a complete PC remake over the weekend of August 8, 2026, rebuilt from the ground up with the graphics, color palette, and soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country, its 16-bit big brother on the Super Nintendo.

Deeply reworked levels, not just a graphical reskin

The remake keeps the original's iconic worlds - Gangplank Galleon Ahoy!, Kremlantis, and Big Ape City among them - but doesn't just slap new graphics on top. The 30-plus levels have been enlarged and redesigned to use the space the Game Boy's tiny resolution never allowed, with more hidden paths and vertical exploration. The project runs natively on Windows and doesn't require the original ROM to launch, since it ships with its own assets.

As with any fan project of this scale, the legal risk is real: Nintendo could order it taken down at any time, so it's best not to get too attached while it's still around. The game is free to download from Google Drive, and Kazquez has also released a dedicated video guide to help you set it up on first launch.
