Mirai (未来): The Cult 1987 MSX2 Action RPG Returns on Nintendo Switch via EGG Console

Japanese preservation specialist D4 Enterprise, the company behind the "Project EGG" retro gaming service, released "EGG Console Mirai MSX2" on the Japanese eShop on June 11, 2026, an official emulation-based port of this sci-fi action RPG originally released in 1987 for the MSX2 computer.

In Mirai ("Future"), players take on the role of a mysterious soldier exploring six planets, each made up of two distinct stage types: aerial levels that play like a shoot 'em up, where managing fuel is essential to progress, and underground levels focused on hand-to-hand combat, where finding each boss's weak point is key. The game is known for its high difficulty, staying true to the spirit of MSX productions of its era.

Another addition to the growing EGG Console lineup on Switch

This release is part of the "EGG Console" collection, which brings faithful, subscription-free emulations of 1980s and 1990s Japanese computer games (MSX, MSX2, PC-88 and more) to Nintendo Switch; a PC-8801mkIISR version of Mirai is also available in parallel for comparison. "EGG Console Mirai MSX2" is available for 880 yen on the Japanese Nintendo eShop, while D4 Enterprise's official site showcases the full EGG Console catalogue along with guidance for getting started with these retro titles.
