Developer SrBananaMan releases an unofficial PC recompilation of Harvest Moon 64, with better performance and mod support via Thunderstore.

Developer SrBananaMan has released an unofficial PC recompilation of Harvest Moon 64, allowing the 1999 farming sim classic to run natively on Windows, Linux and macOS without an emulator. The project, dubbed HarvestMoon64Recomp, is built on the N64Recomp toolchain and the RT64 rendering engine, drawing on decompilation work carried out by Harvest Whisperer in 2025.

Version 1.0.0 launched in late June 2026, followed four days later by version 1.1.0. The port breaks past the original Nintendo 64 hardware's limitations, offering higher resolutions and frame rates, customizable controls, and crucially, mod support through the Thunderstore platform. Several mods are already available, including skippable intro and breakfast animations, adjustable field of view, a fix for rain-watered crops, and faster map loading.

Unlike traditional emulation, this kind of recompilation translates the original game's assembly code directly into C, opening the door to performance and moddability previously out of reach for this title. The project still requires owning a North American ROM image of the original game to run, since the recompilation itself contains no copyrighted assets.

The project is available for free on its official GitHub repository, which also includes installation instructions and a list of compatible mods. Source: Time Extension
