Lenovo G02: The Chinese Retro Console in Trouble After Illegal ROMs Discovered

What was meant to be a discreet product for the Chinese market has turned into an international scandal for Lenovo. The G02, a small $63 handheld console sold under a brand license, is now drawing attention from the retro community for all the wrong reasons.

Equipped with an ARM Cortex-A35 processor and capable of emulating over 30 systems ranging from the NES to the PSP, the console was technically competent. Some units were shipped with thousands of preinstalled ROMs, without any publisher licensing.

A swift break with international sellers

As soon as the information leaked, Lenovo ordered the removal of listings on AliExpress and Alibaba for buyers outside China. Despite this, resellers continue to offer the G02 through bulk storefronts on Alibaba at around $41 per unit.
