MiSTer FPGA: a Konami System 573 core is coming for Bemani games
Specialist outlet RetroRGB published a fresh MiSTer FPGA development roundup on July 2, 2026, with several notable advances for arcade fans. The biggest news is a core in progress for the Konami System 573, the PlayStation-based arcade board that powered most Bemani games, including the Dance Dance Revolution series. The developer has already gotten Hyper Bishi Bashi Champ to boot, with fully working audio even though graphics remain partly garbled for now.
The report also covers the IGS PGM core, for which developer Martin Donlon has posted test builds along with MRA files for several games, saying he's confident in accuracy for titles that don't rely on the board's extra ARM processor. Meanwhile, another developer is working on a separate core for the PGM2, IGS's next-generation system, and posted a video showing a first game successfully booting.
Progress that could eventually let large swaths of the Bemani and IGS arcade catalogs run natively on MiSTer, two families of arcade games that FPGA emulation has poorly served until now.
RetroRGB also mentions a preliminary Cabal core, plus a new Nintendo 64 core build with increased CPU and RCP clock speeds. The MiSTer FPGA project remains entirely free and open source; stable cores can be downloaded through the official update tool, and newcomers can find a full getting-started guide on RetroGameCoders.
