OpenGOAL completes the trilogy: Jak & Daxter 1, 2 and 3 are now available in native PC port
Sony will never port Jak & Daxter to PC. It’s said. But fortunately, the community is no longer waiting for permission from anyone. The OpenGOAL project has just completed a titanic job: the complete Jak & Daxter trilogy is now available in native PC port, a few days after the beta release of Jak 3.
🎮 Reminder: what is OpenGOAL?
OpenGOAL is a decompilation project of Naughty Dog's PS2 trilogy. The special feature: the Jak games were written in GOAL (Game Oriented Assembly Lisp), a proprietary language designed by Naughty Dog. The team reverse-engineered this language, recreated a GOAL compiler, then recompiled the games for PC.
The result isn’t emulation, it’s a real native port, with full access to the game code. And that changes everything in terms of image quality, performance and modding possibilities.
✅ State of every game
- Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, stable, fully playable, considered “gold”
- Jak II, beta, some minor audio bugs, but fully doable
Jak 3, beta since April 1, 2026, some remaining graphics issues, but the game is complete from start to finish
All three games support:native widescreen, 4K, 60fps & more, mods, Windows/Linux/Mac.
🔧 How to play it?
OpenGOAL does not distribute the files s game, you must own an original PS2 copy (PAL, NTSC or NTSC-J) to rip the assets. Once your files in hand, the OpenGOAL launcher will take care of the rest automatically.
Download the launcher from opengoal.dev and follow the documentation. Installation takes a few minutes.
🤔 What's next?
The team has already answered the questions about what's next. PSP games (Daxter, The Lost Frontier) will not be ported, different engines, not developed by Naughty Dog. Jak X: Combat Racing is under discussion, it runs on the same GOAL engine, so technically possible. >Sources: Time Extension - opengoal.dev - GamesRadar
