PCSX2 2.6.0: +596% performance under DirectX 12 and a completely revised interface
Six months. That’s how long it took the PCSX2 team to prepare version 2.6.0, released on January 4, 2026. And the result is worth the wait. This release is not making the headlines thanks to a single big feature, but thanks to an accumulation of serious technical work on several fronts simultaneously.
🚀 D3D12 performance explodes
🚀 D3D12 performance explodes
The most dramatic change comes to the Direct3D 12 side. PCSX2 now implements the Feedback Reads for D3D12via the "aliased resources" - concretely, the emulator can now use the same texture both as a shader resource and as a render target. The result on the games that benefit from it is stunning:
- Hitman Blood Money: +596% performance
- Death by Degrees: +413%
- Final Fantasy XII: drastically lowered “barriers” (−1144)
- Need for Speed Carbon: −2073 barriers
These numbers may seem abstract, but in practice it means that games that slagged or crashed under D3D12 are now running without a hitch. The Multidraw Framebuffer Copy also brings the D3D11/12 accuracy closer to what Vulkan and OpenGL already offered.
🖥️ The interface is really modernized
The other major project of this version is the interface. The Big Picture Mode, the big-screen couch/controller-style mode-finally achieves parity with the classic Qt interface. You can now change the network and HDD settings, create a Memory Card, and connect to RetroAchievements directly from this mode without returning to the main menu. style="user-select: auto;">Other welcome QoL features:
- Desktop game shortcuts (Windows): right-click on a game → create a direct shortcut, without going through the emulator
- Live wallpapersin the interface
- Gamma adjustment available directly from the menu
- In-game overlay repositionable
- Hotkey to swap Memory Cards
- Korean titles translated into games database
🎮 For Steam Deck and Linux
Linux users benefit from a support overhaulWayland, which switches to the method recommended by Qt. Result: more tinkered workarounds, better general compatibility. The version is available via EmuDeck and RetroDECK for the Steam Deck.
