Prolapse: a researcher announces a PS5 kernel exploit for firmware 14.00 and 14.10
The PS5 scene has a new name to watch. On October 25, 2026, security researcher notnotzecoxao announced Prolapse, a kernel exploit targeting PlayStation 5 firmware 14.00 and 14.10. The name follows Lapse (up to firmware 10.01) and Relapse (up to 13.60), according to iXBT Games.
Caution is needed: the exploit is still in development and the researcher gave no release date. There is no download and no usable jailbreak at this stage. The announcement comes days after Gezine's firmware 14.10 demo, covered by TechSpot, which also remains private.
What Sony already fixed
The researcher also analyzed firmware 14.20, released on October 21. According to him, the update adds a generation ID check and slot validation after a thread lock reset, a classic fix for a TOCTOU use-after-free and double-free bug. Any race primitive in aio_multi_delete that worked up to 14.10 would therefore no longer work on 14.20.
In short: if your console is on 14.10 or lower, do not update hoping for a future jailbreak, since downgrading is impossible. If it is on 13.60 or lower, the public Relapse exploit remains the known route. This information moves fast, so check your sources before doing anything (situation as of 10/28/2026).
