A prototype of Sega Rally on Nintendo DS discovered: a never-before-published pitch demo
A prototype of Sega Rally planned for Nintendo DS has been discovered and shared online. Created by the studio DC Studios as a pitch demo intended to convince Sega, this prototype was never announced publicly and obviously never was marketed. Its posting offers a fascinating look at a port that could have existed.
A pitch demo to convince Sega
DC Studios had developed this prototype with the aim of proposing to Sega a port of the Sega Rally franchise on the Nintendo DS. The demo shows an early but playable state of the racing engine adapted to the laptop's capabilities. The prototype includes at least one playable track with a car and a rudimentary menu interface reflecting the visual codes of the series.
This The unsuccessful type of demo pitch is relatively rare to discover: most disappear with the archives of the studios, often closed or acquired. DC Studios, active primarily in the 2000s on portable platforms, has left little trace in public archives.
Video game preservation in action
This discovery green reminds the importance of the work of preservation communities, who recover and document development builds, demos, and prototypes before they disappear permanently. Projects like Hidden Palace or Forest of Illusion play an essential role in the conservation of this heritage.
