Railroad Tycoon on the SNES: first footage of the cancelled port surfaces

A 2 minute 19 second video shared on Bluesky shows for the first time the never-released Super Famicom port of MicroProse's railway strategy game: title screen, menu, interface and track laying.

A Bluesky user, wowmd, has posted a 2 minute 19 second video presented as the very first footage ever shared online of the cancelled Railroad Tycoon port for the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom. MicroProse's railway strategy game never came out on Nintendo's console, and this clip is the first visual trace of that version.

It shows the title screen and main menu, the in-game interface, and simulation elements such as track laying and train scheduling. Development therefore seems to have been fairly advanced when the project stopped.

A project announced in 1991, then gone

The port was mentioned in Nintendo Power as early as April 1991 and came back in several issues until October 1993, before development ceased. IGS Software is said to have been the planned Japanese publisher. According to Time Extension, it is still unknown why the game was cancelled despite this progress.

For preservation, it is one more piece in the file of lost games, which the Lost Media Wiki tracks. For now only this video has been shared: nothing indicates that a playable version has been found, so there is nothing to download.
