Recent Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 Units May Be Hiding an Unused 120Hz Display
Some recent Retroid Pocket 5 and Retroid Flip 2 units appear to be built with a panel capable of hitting 120Hz, even though both handhelds have only ever officially shipped with a 60Hz refresh rate. The discovery surfaced in the community on Reddit in late September 2026 and has not been officially confirmed by Retroid so far.
The first report came from a post on r/sbcgaming, where a user claimed to have checked their Pocket 5's refresh rate using Kei's Retro Gaming's PULSE app, then confirmed the result with ADB commands. A second post on r/Retroid then reported the same finding on the Flip 2.
Software is currently capping that hardware capability. Something in Retroid's software stack is preventing the display from actually running at 120Hz, navigating the Android interface shows no perceptible difference from older models. The PULSE app does, however, let users enable 120Hz on a per-app basis on affected units, pending any broader official support.
It's unclear whether every recent Pocket 5 and Flip 2 unit is affected, or whether this reflects a deliberate component change by Retroid versus a simple supplier variation. To check your own unit, Kei's Retro Gaming's PULSE app remains the simplest tool, with a usage guide available on its official site.
