Retroid Pocket Nova: the 4:3 OLED handheld opens pre-orders at $229

After weeks of incremental spec reveals, the Retroid Pocket Nova officially launched for pre-order on June 26, 2026. Retroid is offering this new Android-based retro gaming handheld starting at $229 for the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage model, with the 12 GB RAM configuration priced at $269. Delivery is scheduled for the end of July 2026.

The screen stands out as one of the device’s main strengths: a 4.5-inch AMOLED panel in the classic 4:3 aspect ratio, running at 1,280 x 960 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, 500-nit peak brightness, and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Under the hood, the Pocket Nova is powered by the Qualcomm QCS8550 chip - functionally identical to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, minus the cellular modem. Performance is expected to comfortably handle PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Switch emulation.

A standout differentiator is the Pocket Nova’s native compatibility with Retroid’s dual-screen accessory, designed to emulate Nintendo DS and 3DS titles with both screens as originally intended. The device sports a translucent retro aesthetic: a matte frosted shell in Crystal, Watermelon, Clear Purple, or Ice Blue, transparent D-pad and ABXY buttons, symmetrical thumbsticks with RGB ring lighting, and front-facing stereo speakers.
