RPCS3: over 78% of the PS3 library is now playable on PC

The RPCS3 team announced on July 14, 2026 that 75% of the entire PlayStation 3 library, 2,681 out of 3,559 tracked games, is now playable on PC, just weeks after Sony confirmed the PlayStation Store's closure on PS3 and PS Vita.

⚠️ Update as of September 22, 2026: RPCS3's compatibility rate has kept climbing since this July announcement. The official compatibility list now shows more than 78% of games as "Playable", up from 75% at the time of writing. See the current RPCS3 compatibility list.

The team behind RPCS3, the open-source PlayStation 3 emulator for PC, announced on July 14, 2026 that 75% of the entire PS3 library is now playable, meaning 2,681 out of the 3,559 games tracked by the project. The announcement lands at a particularly symbolic moment, just weeks after Sony confirmed it will shut down the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita by July 2027.

RPCS3's "Playable" status means a game can be completed from start to finish with acceptable performance and no game-breaking bugs, though it doesn't rule out minor graphical, audio, or performance issues still present in some titles.

Unfortunately, the remaining 25% of games includes some of the console's biggest productions, among them The Last of Us, God of War III, Metal Gear Solid 4, and the entire Uncharted trilogy, all technically demanding titles that continue to pose major emulation challenges for the team.

With the PlayStation Store closure looming, RPCS3 is becoming an increasingly crucial preservation tool for the entire PS3 library. The emulator, completely free and open-source, can be downloaded directly from the project's official website, which also offers a quickstart guide to set up a PS3 firmware dump and launch your first games.
