SharpEmu boots Astro Bot: another milestone for the young PS5 emulation scene
On July 13, 2026, a member of the Discord server for SharpEmu, an experimental PlayStation 5 emulator written in C# by developer par274, announced they had managed to boot Astro Bot, Team Asobi's 2024 PS5 exclusive, all the way to its title screen on a regular Windows PC. The news, shared by user RSantila, quickly spread across social media and specialist outlets.
SharpEmu currently focuses on system architecture accuracy rather than game compatibility: the project can load games' eboot.bin and elf executables, run native CPU instructions, read game metadata, and partially handle certain kernel functions. Other titles, including the Demon's Souls remake, Silent Hill: The Short Message, and the indie game Dreaming Sarah, have also reached the video-output stage with working texture rendering.
For now, this remains a simple boot to the title screen rather than full playability: the SharpEmu team itself insists it only tolerates legally obtained game copies, and this progress comes amid renewed interest in PS5 emulation following Sony's announcement that it will stop producing game discs.
SharpEmu's source code, released under the GPL-2.0 license, is available on its official GitHub repository, where the team also explains how to build and contribute to the project; curious readers can follow day-to-day development progress on the project's official Discord server.
