Konami's Maligned PlayStation Port Of Snatcher Is Finally Playable In English

Released in Japan only by Konami in 1996, the PlayStation port of Snatcher, Hideo Kojima's cyberpunk thriller, had never received a full English translation despite the growing popularity of the original Sega CD version. That has now changed thanks to translator Pepasjc, who has released a fan patch covering the entire game.

A full script and two patch options

The patch translates all 39 scene banks of the game, more than 12,000 lines of text in total, along with every menu, verb and item label. Voiced dialogue also gets English subtitles for 1,042 of the game's 1,130 spoken lines, and graphical elements such as memo pages and the Snatcher diagram have been redone. Two versions of the patch are available: one keeps the artwork exactly as Konami shipped it in Japan, while the other restores scenes that were censored for the PlayStation release.

This PlayStation version is especially notable for fans, since it carries over the extra scenes added for the Sega CD release along with that edition's uncensored script, making it the most complete version of the game, now playable in English for the first time. The patch is free, distributed on GitHub, and may not be sold or bundled with a disc image.
