Soul Blazer (SNES) Gets A Fan Relocalisation Eight Years In The Making

After eight years of intermittent work, fans Ballz, ChronoMoogle and Lightbulbsun have released a fan relocalisation of Soul Blazer on SNES, polishing the original English text while keeping the charm of the early 90s era intact.

Three dedicated fans, Ballz, ChronoMoogle and Lightbulbsun, released on June 9, 2026 an unofficial relocalisation of Soul Blazer, the action RPG by Quintet and Enix originally released on Super Nintendo in 1992. The project was worked on intermittently for around eight years and sets out to fix the many shortcomings of the original North American English release.

Rather than retranslating the game from Japanese, the team focused on a moderate edit of the existing localisation: spelling mistakes corrected, unclear phrasings clarified, and poorly formatted text cleaned up. As the authors put it, the patch still retains much of that early-90s Japanese-to-English charm, things are just now spelt correctly and make more sense. The patch applies to the North American ROM only.

A quiet but valuable preservation effort, the fruit of eight years of volunteer work

The patch (version 1.1) is available for free on romhack.ing. To apply it to your SNES ROM, the free tool Floating IPS (Flips) on GitHub is the community's go-to choice for patching SNES ROMs without hassle.
