Star Wars Trilogy Arcade comes to Dreamcast: a playable demo of ToastedGreedo's port
Announced on September 18, 2026, ToastedGreedo's Dreamcast port of Star Wars Trilogy Arcade has just received its demo, released on September 21 on itch.io. The 1998 Sega Model 3 arcade game had never been adapted for a home console: the project rebuilds it from scratch, through reverse-engineering and behavioural analysis of the arcade game, imagining what a Dreamcast version could have looked like in late 1999 or early 2000.
The demo, still a work in progress, includes the Yavin mission and the lightsaber duel against Boba Fett. The author tested it in Flycast and on real Dreamcast hardware, and a fix dedicated to GDEMU optical drive emulators has already been posted on the project page.
How to try it
The demo disc can be downloaded from the project's itch.io page, where the author details the available formats. On PC, the Flycast emulator (official builds on GitHub) is enough. On an original console, you have to burn the disc to a CD-R or use an optical drive emulator: this Dreamcast disc burning tutorial explains the process for a self-booting disc.
A point of transparency: ToastedGreedo writes that Claude Code (Sonnet 5 and Opus 5) was used as a programming aid, while stating that the project itself was directed, tested, debugged and iterated by the author, and that no art was created with generative AI. The subject already fuels the debate on "vibe-coded" retro projects, which Time Extension also covers with a GoldenEye running on SNES.
