Speedrunner Suigi broke his own Super Mario 64 world record in the 16-star category on July 3, 2026, clocking a time of 14 minutes and 32 seconds.

American speedrunner Suigi set a new world record on Super Mario 64 in the 16-star category on July 3, 2026, clearing the game in 14 minutes and 32 seconds. That shaves 3 seconds off his own 2023 record, which had stood for more than three years in this particularly demanding category where every frame counts.

Suigi currently dominates every major speedrun category of Super Mario 64 on Speedrun.com, a game released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64 that has remained a cornerstone of the speedrunning scene thanks to its deep movement tech and wide variety of possible routes. The 16-star category, which requires finishing the game with exactly sixteen Power Stars collected, is considered one of the most technical in the game.

“I beat that record! Oh my god! It's over! I actually can't believe that shit's over!” the speedrunner exclaimed the moment his run was verified.

The feat comes as the classic games speedrunning scene remains particularly active in 2026, buoyed by charity events like Awesome Games Done Quick, which continues to spotlight titles such as Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers.
