Version 0.200b of Super ZSNES was released on May 29, 2026 and finally brings support for MSU-1, allowing you to listen to CD quality audio patches on SNES games.

Super ZSNES has just reached an important milestone with the release of its version v0.200b on May 29, 2026. The SNES emulator, redesigned from the scratch to take advantage of modern GPUs, adds in this update the much-anticipated support for the MSU-1.

For those who don’t know, the MSU- 1 is a fictional chip invented by developer byuu (creator of bsnes) that allows patched SNES games to play CD-quality audio tracks instead of the original music. Hundreds of cult games have been patched by the community to benefit from this sound upgrade, from The Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past to Final Fantasy VI via Super Metroid.

Super ZSNES v0.200b brings also:

  • Integer and bilinear scaling modes for cleaner display
  • MSU-1 files must be in folder format (as with the FXPak Pro), not zip-compressed
  • Many fixes tifs and various optimizations

The emulator is distinguished from other SNES solutions by its approach: it is not based on bsnes or Snes9x, but entirely rewritten to exploit GPU acceleration, with high resolution Mode 7 rendering and improvements per game. An interesting alternative for users who find BSNES too greedy without wanting to sacrifice quality.

Super ZSNES is available for free on zsnes.com for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.
