SuperSega V3: it returns with a PC in a wooden case, even crazier than before
Do you remember SuperSega? The Spanish project that promised a high-end Sega FPGA console, had opened pre-orders, collected the money, and never delivered a single unit? Its creator, Alejandro Martín, is back. And the V3 is even more extravagant.
What the SuperSega V3 is
No more FPGA. This time, Martín offers a standard PC housed in a handmade chassis made of wooden. The user must provide their Nvidia GPU himself. The machine integrates cartridge drives for Mega Drive, Master System, SG-1000/SC-3000 and an optical drive for Mega CD and Saturn.
The pros Obvious Problems
Wood is a poor material for a PC case: it stores heat, can warp with moisture, and provides neither EMI shielding or fire protection. Units will be made by hand one by one, with the credit card charged upon delivery. No price has been announced.
Given Martín’s past, the community is receiving this announcement with understandable skepticism. For Sega fans looking for a true retro solution, alternatives like the Polymega or a MiSTer FPGA setup are much more reliable.
