SuperStation One Lite: a $200 FPGA prototype with no analogue output
After hinting at a SuperFPGA console project for the Super Nintendo, Taki Udon may be preparing another surprise at Retro Remake: a SuperStation One Lite, a cheaper version of the SuperStation One, the FPGA console whose case evokes a PlayStation. According to Retro Dodo, which relies on statements by Taki Udon, a prototype was made "last month" and its price would be $200.
This cut-down version would have no analogue output and no Super Dock support. In return, Taki Udon mentions 2 to 3 W lower power draw and better airflow. The current SuperStation One offers HDMI, USB-A, component, VGA, 10-pin DIN, S-Video and composite, and the Super Dock, sold at $249 ($299 as a bundle), adds four USB ports, an M.2 NVMe slot, an optical drive, a SNAC port, an infrared receiver and an expansion connector.
Information to treat with caution
For now this is a rumour: nothing confirms that the console will be made official or released, and no date has been given. The source outlet also mentions the possibility of a range of FPGA handhelds, unconfirmed. For CRT and analogue enthusiasts, dropping those connectors will weigh heavily, but at $200 the entry ticket to mainstream FPGA would be much lower. To be continued.
