Terranigma might finally be getting a re-release, if a cryptic teaser is anything to go by

Publisher Clear River Games has posted a mysterious video alongside a Square Enix / Quintet copyright notice, just days ahead of a Gamescom showcase.

Released only in Europe and Japan back in 1995, Terranigma never officially made it across the Atlantic, turning it over the decades into one of the most requested SNES RPGs among North American players. On August 18, 2026, publisher Clear River Games posted a cryptic teaser on X alongside the line "Wake up! All the living things in this world await your awakening," a direct nod to the iconic opening of the game developed by Quintet.

The video displays a "Square Enix / Quintet / Kamui Fujiwara" copyright notice, and the announcement is tied to a presentation planned at the Pixel Arcadia showcase at Gamescom on August 24, 2026. For now, no platform, format (a simple port versus a full remake) or release date has been officially confirmed - at this stage, it remains strong speculation rather than an official announcement.

A cult classic its own character designer would love to see modernized

Terranigma left its mark with its narrative ambition, weaving together the creation and destruction of the world, carried by the art direction of character designer Kamui Fujiwara. Fujiwara has previously voiced public enthusiasm for a potential remake, saying that "with today's technology, [the hero's] hair could finally get its original blue color back." That should keep fans' hopes up until Gamescom, where they'll be hoping this teaser turns into a proper announcement.
