THEA1200: the full-size replica of the Amiga 1200 postponed to December 2026
Amiga 1200 fans will have to wait a little longer. Retro Games Ltd, the studio behind THEC64 Mini and the newer THEC64 Handheld, has just announced their full-size replica
📅 From June 16 to December 4, 2026
The machine was expected for June 16, 2026. In an announcement published on May 6 on social media and signed by CTO Chris Smith, Retro Games Ltd confirms a new release date: December 4, 2026. That’s almost six months of additional delay.
The reason given is technical and honest: “The OS is not yet where it should be.” The THEA1200 is onboard e a modernized AmigaOS operating system which should allow the original Amiga software to run while offering an interface accessible to newbies. Obviously, this work is taking longer than expected.
🖥️ What is the THEA1200?
The THEA1200 is a full-size replica of the Amiga 1200, originally released in 1992 by Commodore. Unlike usual mini-consoles, it takes the exact dimensions of the original machine with a real keyboard, compatible expansion ports, and an FPGA implementation of Amiga hardware. This is the “big” version of the THEC64 approach - for those who want the full experience on their desktop.
It’s not the first f ois that the project is delayed: it had already been pushed back before getting a date of June 2026. Existing pre-orders are maintained. Retro Games Ltd promises regular updates on OS progress by December.
