THEA1200 Officially Becomes An Amiga Product, Thirty Years After The Brand Vanished

Retro Games Ltd has secured the right to put the Amiga name on its A1200 replica, sealed by a meeting between the heads of Amiga, Commodore and Retro Games at Gamescom.

It is the kind of detail that only a handful of enthusiasts care about, and yet it marks a date. Retro Games Ltd confirmed in late August 2026 that THEA1200, its full-size Amiga 1200 replica, will be sold as an official Amiga product. It is the first time in decades that a device has been able to legally carry the name, made possible by a recent licensing deal allowing companies such as Retro Games Ltd and Commodore International to use it on their products.

The moment was captured at Gamescom on 28 August: Retro Games Ltd shared a series of photos showing the CEO of Amiga Corp, Commodore International boss Christian Simpson, and Retro Games' joint CEO gathered around the machine. After three decades of legal dismemberment, in which the Commodore and Amiga rights scattered across successive buyers, lawsuits and shell companies, seeing all three parties pose together around the same keyboard was something the community had never witnessed.

An identity that changes everything on the box. The machine's predecessor, THEA500 Mini, had to make do with a code name and an evocative design without ever being able to print Amiga on its packaging. THEA1200 will arrive with the logo, which is no small thing for a product aimed at collectors who genuinely care about brand legitimacy. On the hardware side, the console adopts the full form factor of the original A1200, with twenty-five preinstalled games, HDMI output, a matching "tank" mouse, a USB controller and the ability to load your own collection.

The launch, originally set for 16 June 2026, has been pushed to 4 December 2026, and the machine is listed at £169.99 on the manufacturer's store. Pre-orders, the full spec sheet and the list of included games are laid out on Retro Games Ltd's official product page, which also serves as the starting point for understanding how loading external software works on the device.
