THEC64 Handheld and The Spectrum Handheld: the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum in portable clamshell format

If someone had told you in 1985 that one day the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum would fit in a pocket, clamshell size, with a built-in color screen, you would have laughed. And yet. Blaze Entertainment (the creators of the Evercade) and Retro Games Ltd (to which we  owe the THEC64 Mini and The Spectrum+) have just announced exactly that: THEC64 Handheld and The Spectrum Handheld.

📐 The design: clamshell like a GBA SP

The clamshell format opens in two parts like a Game Boy Advance SP or a Nintendo DS, an assumed reference. Closed, it’s a small compact case. Opened, the screen appears at the top and the controls at the bottom. The design is also inspired by the palmtops and organizers of the 80s, which gives a result visually very consistent with the original machines. >Both devices share the same technical specs:

💛 THEC64 Handheld, all in retro beige

The C64 Handheld arrives in the characteristic beige of the Commodore 64C with tactile plastic keys faithful to the originals .  On the emulation side, it supports several configurations: C64 PAL, C64 NTSC, C64C, C64SX, PET64 and C64 GS. Mappable function keys help compensate for the lack of a full keyboard for games that need one.
