Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 lands on MiSTer FPGA with a new Wolf Unit core

The MiSTer FPGA scene just gained a core arcade fans have been waiting for. Developer blahm1d has released a core for Midway's Wolf Unit arcade board, finally bringing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 to MiSTer with an experience close to the original cabinet. The core recreates the board's hardware behaviour: CPUs, memory management, graphics and sound all run in parallel exactly as they did on the original 1990s cabinet.

NBA Hangtime was already playable through this core, and the rest of the Wolf Unit library is expected to follow gradually. Upcoming titles include the standard version of Mortal Kombat 3, WWF WrestleMania, NHL: 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge, NBA Maximum Hangtime and Rampage World Tour, all built on the same Midway board. Wolf Unit hardware had long been considered especially hard to implement on FPGA, which makes this release stand out for the arcade preservation community.

To install it, you'll need an up-to-date MiSTer FPGA, the core files available directly from blahm1d, and your own legally dumped arcade ROMs, which are not included with the core.
