Wii: be careful with USB-C adapters, some send 15V instead of the original 12V
The mod seemed perfect: a small USB-C PDcable, a modern charger, and the old Wii power supply put in the cupboard. Clean, compact, practical. Except that several tests published this week show that some of these adapters are poorly designed and negotiate 15V instead of the 15Vs. auto;">12Vexpected by the console.
🔌 The problem: it's not necessarily fatal, but it's not normal
According to the tests relayed by the scene, some cables work correctly, others do not. A real draw. In at least one case, the inside of the cable contained only a USB-PD negotiation chip, with no voltage conversion or visible protection behind.
🧪 A hardware lottery
This is what makes the subject interesting editorially: we are not facing a simple isolated defect, but a gray market of small “clever” retro accessories where the quality varies from one copy to another. The idea of the USB-C cable for Wii is good. Its execution clearly depends on the manufacturer.
