Xenia Edge: an ambitious new fork breathes fresh life into Xbox 360 emulation
Xbox 360 emulation has a new contender with Xenia Edge, an experimental fork built on top of Xenia Canary. The developers' stated goal is to bring together, in a single package, the latest technical advances that are currently scattered across several community forks, speeding up iteration and research around Xbox 360 emulation.
The project focuses on higher out-of-the-box game compatibility, improved usability and solid cross-platform support: Windows, macOS, and especially Linux, where the project recommends a native install rather than going through Wine or Proton, unlike much of the rest of the Xbox 360 emulation scene.
Simplified builds and continuous integration
Concretely, this release brings a custom build script that noticeably simplifies the compilation process, a community-maintained game compatibility list, and automated continuous integration via Buildbot to make releases more reliable. The codebase, mostly written in C++, is rounded out with Python tooling for the build pipeline.
Binaries and source code are available on the GitHub releases page, which also links to a getting started guide and FAQ to help set up your first games.
