xeRAbora brings RetroAchievements to a real PS2 through an Open PS2 Loader plug-in
RetroAchievements are no longer limited to emulators: a homebrew plug-in called xeRAbora, developed by the modder "hacan 359", makes them work on a real PlayStation 2. The software plugs into Open PS2 Loader (OPL), reads the console's memory during play, watches for the flags that signal an achievement has been earned and updates the player's RetroAchievements account.
An optional notification can even appear directly on the PS2's screen, just like on emulators. The plug-in also works with standard PS2 emulation for the so-called "One Box" method. To use it you need a console already able to run homebrew through OPL and a RetroAchievements account to link.
Where to get it
The project is available for download on its GitHub releases page, and getting-started documentation is on the project's official repository. This is a recent project: check compatibility with your OPL version before installing.
