Zaparoo Launcher: a graphical interface with artwork for MiSTer FPGA, free and available now
>The MiSTer FPGA is an extraordinary platform technically, but its navigation interface has always been its weak point. The MiSTer’s text menu does the job, but it is far from the usability of a modern frontend. Zaparoo has just changed that with the release of its Zaparoo Launcher: a graphical interface complete, TV and controller friendly, with artwork display, totally free.
🎮 What is Zaparoo again?
Zapa roo is an open source project known in the MiSTer community for its system for launching games via NFC tokens: you place a card or an NFC token on a reader connected to your MiSTer, and the corresponding game will launch automatically. A very popular system for families and physical collections. The Launcher is the following brick: a visual interface that runs directly on the MiSTer screen.
✨ What the Launcher offers
- Artwork display for each game and system, scra played from ScreenScraper via Skraper
- Recently played games accessible directly from the home screen
- Controller navigation fully functional, designed for the couch< /li>
- Integrated NFClaunch, as in Zaparoo Core
- Return to the MiSTermenu possible at any time
- CRTcompatibility confirmed, with additional UI adjustments re in progress for 240p and 480i
🔧 How to configure artwork scraping
The Launcher uses the gamelist.xml files generated by EmulationStation to load the metadata and images. To scrape your collection, download Skraper on PC, create a free account on ScreenScraper, then configure Skraper in RecalBox mode (important: this mode is which generates the files in the correct format). Points Skraper directly to your SD card or MiSTer network share. Once scraping is finished, open the Launcher settings and launch “Scrape metadata” for the Launcher to integrate the data.
📥 Installation
The Launcher is available for free on GitHub. It requires Zaparoo Core v2.12.0 or newer. Installation is done by copying the folders from the ZIP archive to the root of your MiSTer SD card. A new stable version is expected in a few weeks with significant improvements already available in development build on the Zaparoo Discord. >Visit zaparoo.org for download links and full documentation.
