The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Returns in a Realistic Remake Announced for This Year on Switch 2
At its Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026, Nintendo officially confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, is getting a full remake exclusive to Switch 2. The release is slated for this year, with no precise date given yet.
The deliberately minimal reveal showed Link asleep while a narrator set up the story's lore, accompanied by a handful of still environment shots and a remastered rendition of the Ocarina theme, but no actual gameplay footage. The biggest change is the art direction: Nintendo is moving away from the series' usual abstract style toward "high-fidelity, realistic visuals", an approach some fans immediately compared to the look of games like Fable.
No word yet on Master Quest, extra content, or pricing
Nintendo gave no details on whether Master Quest will be included, on any gameplay changes, on pricing, or on a precise release window within the year. Community reaction has been mixed: many players were disappointed by how brief the reveal was given the same-year launch window, while others are betting on a dedicated Direct for more details down the line. The trailer is available on Nintendo's YouTube channel.
