Kevin Toms, the original creator of Football Manager on ZX Spectrum in 1982, returns with a Legacy Collection combining three versions of the game. A symbolic return just before the 2026 World Cup.

In 1982, Kevin Toms published the first Football Manager on ZX Spectrum and invented an entire genre - the sports management game. 44 years later, he returns to the same machine with the ZX Football Manager Legacy Collection, a collection of three versions of the game pu released at the most symbolic time possible: a few weeks before the 2026 World Cup.

The collection brings together three versions of the original game:

  • Football Manager (1982) - the original history, text and text. ASCII, which invented everything
  • Football Manager 2 (1988) - improved version with more colorful graphics
  • A third worm unreleased or remastered sion (details to be confirmed)

All three games have been “updated for modern systems” according to Kevin Toms, which i could mean bug fixes, improved compatibility with modern emulators, or convenience additions.

Kevin Toms developed Football Manager alone, in his bedroom, in 1982. The game became one of the best-selling on ZX Spectru m and directly inspired all the sports management games that followed - including Championship Manager and Football Manager from Sports Interactive. Its return to the ZX Spectrum in 2026 is a beautiful symbol of the vitality of the 8-bit homebrew scene.

The Legacy Collection is available now. Original ZX Spectrum, emulators and MiSTer FPGA compatibility confirmed.
