Synopsis

Alundra, the silent protagonist and player character, is an elf from Elna's clan, the Dreamwalkers. He leaves for a place called Inoa because of a recurring dream in which a mysterious figure who calls Alundra "Releaser" tells him that he must save the villagers from Melzas' evil. The ship carrying Alundra is caught in a storm and is broken in two, leaving most of the crew dead and Alundra drifting unconscious.

Alundra is then seen washed up on an unknown beach, where a man named Jess finds him and rescues him. Jess carries Alundra to his house in Inoa Village and leaves him to sleep in her guest room. In the village, Alundra discovers that he is a Dreamwalker, meaning he has the ability to enter the dreams of others and helps the villagers get rid of the nightmares that possess them. Since Alundra's arrival, bad things start happening in the village, with various villagers being murdered in their dreams, which also leaves them dead outside of their dreams. Some villagers eventually begin to blame Alundra for what is happening.

Another dreamwalker, Meia, from the Elna clan, arrives in town and helps Alundra combat the villagers' nightmares. Later in the game, it is revealed that the demon, Melzas, has disguised himself as a god and is the source of all the village's nightmares. His goal is to make the villagers pray to their god, and thus have Melzas himself draw power from their prayers. Ronan, the village priest, was also on Melzas' side and helped him deceive the villagers and make them pray to Melzas, the false god. Once Alundra discovers the truth, he gathers the information and items needed to access Melzas' palace and defeat the demon. After the destruction of Melzas, Alundra and Meia bid farewell to the villagers and leave together, before going their separate ways.
