Synopsis

In the year 2069, the British ship "Elias Rits" sailed to the island of Kermadec on a private investigation mission. Soon after, satellites reported that the ship's transmission beacons had stopped. Seeing that further investigation required exploring a hostile environment and deep sea, authorities dispatched a special team called W-ODL to find out what happened to the ship. Sailing a powerful mecha, American pilot Fredric von Nyuya must get to the bottom of the mystery and report his findings to the crew.

Aquales is an action platform game. The mech is equipped by default with a hand-held melee weapon and will have access to other methods of destruction, including chainguns, rockets, homing missiles, and more exotic items like a gravitational flamethrower. Levels generally consist of series of platforms and are quite long, with optional areas and power-ups (health, one-time attacks, etc.) in treasure chests. The mech has a grappling hook that should be used frequently to access high platforms. The game offers a slight RPG angle: the hero gains experience points and levels by defeating enemies. Each level ends with a boss battle, after which the player's progress is saved.
