Asteroids
Synopsis
The player controls a spaceship, shown in a top view and confronted by asteroid fields and flying saucers. The goal is to survive as long as possible by destroying asteroids and saucers to collect points. The playing area is fully represented on the screen; when an element leaves the screen frame, it reappears on the opposite side (same for the player's ship)
When an asteroid is hit by a shot, it splits into two medium-sized blocks, which can in turn be split into two smaller blocks, which can finally be destroyed. The original program, however, can only display 26 asteroids simultaneously on the screen (beyond that, the asteroids no longer divide and simply reduce in size). Once all the asteroids have been destroyed, the player moves to the next level: the number of asteroids present at the start of the level varies from four (for the 1st) to eleven (for the 5th and all subsequent ones). The number of points earned by destroying an element depends on its size. Flying saucers come in two sizes: the largest has the ability to fire.
