Synopsis

Firmware system Intellivision, essential to the operation of the console as most emulators. The Executive ROM, commonly abbreviated EXEC, occupies 8192 bytes and contains the software kernel engraved by Mattel in 1978: display routines, management of mobile objects that the period documentation calls MOB, reading of disk controllers, timing and basic arithmetic. The game cartridges rely heavily on these routines rather than re-implementing them, which is why none of them start without it. The archive also contains the Sears variant, delivered with the Super Video Arcade, the version of the Intellivision sold under the brand of the American department store. However, EXEC alone is not enough: it works in conjunction with GROM, the graphics memory that stores the machine's character set, which is referenced separately on the site.
