Synopsis

We are in the 1980s, in the middle of the Cold War between the Western bloc (led by the United States) and the Eastern bloc (led by the Soviet Union). The town of Ostnitz is located on the border between Frobnia, a fictional Eastern Bloc state, and Litzenburg, a neutral state that is also fictional. The American ambassador is due to arrive in Ostnitz soon to deliver a speech on the occasion of the American National Day. But a plot to assassinate him is quickly discovered, which risks exacerbating tensions between the two superpowers. Border Zone is a text adventure game where the player embodies three different protagonists over the course of three chapters: an American businessman and two special agents, one Western and the other Eastern. In addition to textual exploration and classic puzzle solving, the game incorporates real-time elements: time passes even when the player is not interacting with the game.
