Synopsis

Designed to be a board game, Cabela's Adventure Camp, like Cabela's Survival: Shadows of Katmai, appears to be a rather unconventional Cabela-themed title. Rather than focusing on hunting, guns, and dangerous wildlife, Adventure Camp focuses on the more "outdoor sports" and camping aspects of the Cabela's brand. The only hunting here is done with a bow and arrow, and the targets are simply cardboard animal shapes like deer, while the targets are not simple round concentric circles.

There are six playable characters, all children or young teenagers who are "attending" a Cabela-themed camp. Hair and clothing colors can be changed and statistics are saved. Another child, known as Greg, exists to annoy the player at certain points during certain events, including dropping rocks into the river during a kayaking event. Greg plays no active role in the gameplay, but unusual challenges or obstacles are "blamed" on the character.

In-game events include kayaking, clay pigeon shooting, archery, cycling and others. Two slightly more “unusual” games also exist, one of which is a form of Whack-a-Mole combined with memorization of the classic electronic game Simon. The other is a variation of Rock-Paper-Scissors called "Bear-Hunter-Ninja" and requires players to stand in predefined positions to pretend to be a bear, hunter, or ninja. Aside from the Whack-a-Mole and Bear-Hunter-Ninja games, all other games have at least two variations, usually a different course or set of challenges, and can be played by two to four players. Coins/emblems can be collected during many events, as well as large gems for extra points.
