Castle Blast
Synopsis
Castle Blast is a shoot'em up based on the 5th screen of the Atari 2600 Phoenix where you face the mothership. Castle Blast is Ronen Habot's first foray into programming the Atari 5200. Ronen used this experience to write a tutorial on programming the Atari 5200 to help others interested in writing games for the system.
Castle Blast debuted at the 2002 Classic Gaming Expo, where it was sold with a box, manual, and cart. AtariAge held a Castle Blast label competition in April 2002. Castle Blast can be ordered directly from the author, Ronen Habot, by visiting the Castle Blast development page.
The goal of this game is to destroy the mothership's castle. You fire vertical trajectory missiles, or VTMs, at the shield on the bottom of the mothership. When you penetrate the shield, blow up the castle. To score extra points, you can also shoot enemy spaceships flying overhead.
If you destroy the castle, you progress to the next level, where you will have to face focused energy beams, or FEBs, fired from the mothership. Stars will also appear in the sky, making it more difficult for spaceships to target.
If you manage to wipe out the castle again, you'll move on to the next level, which adds tanks on the ground that will attack you. You have horizontal trajectory missiles, or HTMs, to deal with this new enemy but don't lose sight of your main objective.
Your joystick moves you left or right. The lower button triggers the VTMs, the upper button triggers the HTMs.
